The Voltaire Group, with origins in France, was founded in 2010 and has become the world’s second largest premium sport saddle maker in less than 10 years thanks to a bold innovation strategy.
With its 6 brands: Voltaire Design, Forestier Sellier, Rebelle Sellier, Pegase Saddlery, Equitack.com and SCB, the Voltaire Group formed a unique knowhow with 180 employees worldwide and has 85% annual export turnover. The Voltaire Group is resolutely modern and has placed its social and environmental accountability at the heart of its corporate mission which aims to “enable everyone to express their potential”.
It is for this innovative vision & energy within the Group, that contributes to the dynamism and renown of the Basque territory, that the Voltaire Group was selected at the G7, as one of the showcases of the regional economy.
Driven by the desire to reinvent a sector of tradition, The Group launched their light weight, custom-made, high end saddles. Straddling craftsmanship and new technology, to develop products for high level performance, the saddles are discovering rapid success with high level riders. Two-time World Champion and Olympic medalist Beezie Madden was the first to adopt a Voltaire, before being joined by other international champions like Oliver Townend, world No. 2 in eventing or Nicolas Touzain, Olympic Champion, World Champion and European Champion. Resolutely focused on cutting-edge innovation, the Group launches the first connected saddle : The Blue Infinite, the saddle 3.0.
Innovation : the hallmark of the artisanal startup
To re-think tomorrow’s saddles and to allow everyone to express their potential, the Group integrates a research and development center entirely dedicated to innovation.
“All our research in innovation is focused on performance with the aim of making the horse feel as free as possible.” The Group reflects on the solutions of tomorrow, focusing on product innovations (form, materials …) and the development of new technologies such as the Smartphone application, Voltaire Design, to analyze performance.
“It is the alliance of craftsmanship and technological innovation that is the hallmark of our Group.” We are proud that this alliance is recognized by the Award Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) – L’excellence des savoir-faire français. Our role is to perpetuate this craftsmanship of excellence and ensure its accession to the digital era.
The story of a Basque brand that has become an International Group
Voltaire Design, a sport saddle brand, was established in 2010 in a garage in Espelette. As the founding brand of the group, it was first launched in the United States. In just a few years, the brand has consolidated its success in the United States by realizing a large part of its turnover, with continued growth in 2 figures.
An award worthy figure that gained attention in 2018, with the reward of the “Export Trophy Ambassador of the New Aquitaine region”.
The phenomenal renaissance of the Forestier brand
After Voltaire Design’s conquest of the American market, the Group wanted to develop the French market. In 2016 with the takeover of the Forestier brand, this adventure began.
Attached to this brand, which has accompanied a generation of French enthusiasts, it aims to “bring to light“ this iconic house. Building on the reputation of Forestier, the Voltaire Group starts a repositionning focused on sports performance and clean lines.
A winning strategy since Forestier has achieved in 12 months the expected turnover over 3 years. Their success is confirmed by rallying of top level riders such as Nicolas Touzaint, Olympic Medalist and 3 times World Champion.
“Enable everyone to express their potential”, mission of a committed and responsible company
The Voltaire Group is passionate about perfection and performance, however, above all, it is committed to bettering the community. It is in this spirit that the brand began a voluntary CSR approach from the beginning. “The mission of the company is based on deep human values and can not be dissociated from a proactive CSR”.
Today, taking into account social and environmental issues, the ambition is to grow the CSR actions faster than the activity.
With an active CSR approach carried out through corporate, environmental and governance actions, the Voltaire Group has embarked on a process of accountability in line with the ISO 26000 guidelines (the international reference framework for reliable societal society) in line with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
By contributing to equal opportunities for all
In addition to having anchored equal opportunities at the heart of its corporate strategy, the Voltaire Group, since its first year, has supported the Just World International association. A humanitarian organization, helping disadvantaged children around the world by offering education, training, nutrition and health programs.
A company committed to its employees
The Voltaire Group recruits its employees on human qualities over skills. “We are looking above all for respectful, humble and ambitious employees wishing to evolve in a serene atmosphere”. We hire on more than a resume, the Voltaire Group wants personalities who have the desire, the agility and the ability to adapt to a company in full development.
For example, the process of recruitment for employees in the workshop is not to recruit masters but people passionate about the equine universe, sensitive to a demanding expertise in an evolving environment. “We try to find people who fit our values and have manual skills. As each employee will be trained in our production techniques, from cutting through the creation of parts, and assembly, we recruit on a state of mind.” After a few months of training with a master saddler, employees become certified and can exercise their know-how in full autonomy.
